Can the Triton Reference be both hooked up to run as a full tower - and as an LFE - using two different amps...?

Looking to use the Reference for mainly two channel stereo.

So looking to maybe use a 3D Array XL for the 3-channel front speakers for the TV/movies - but would like to use the Reference's subs for the LFE effects, etc.

So can I connect one two-channel stereo amp to the References speaker terminals (for two-channel music) - and then another 7 channel amp to just the References LFE input (for TV and movies)?

Hope this makes "sense"...

Short answer, No.
All powered Tritons have their own built in Amps. The LFE input on the Tritons goes to the sub outputs of a preamp/processor. An standalone amp has Single Ended RCA or Balanced XLR inputs.
Decware Zen Torii mk4, McIntosh MC152, Emotiva xpa1 Mono's > Primaluna ProLogue Premium Preamp > Cambridge Audio Azure 840C > Oppo 205 > Decware ZLC > Triton Reference

Hello New24K,

Perhaps you can accomplish what you have proposed. You could connect the Front speaker outputs from Amplifier Number 1 to the Triton Reference Speaker inputs.

You could then connect a sub out, a line out, or a preamp out from Amplifier Number 2 to the Triton Reference Sub inputs.

With this setup, you could play audio from Amplifier One through the Reference speakers. The References will process those audio signals and send the bass portion to the subs.

Or, you could operate Amplifier 2 and send the sub or audio line/preamp output to the Reference LFE inputs. The References will process just the low frequency portion of the audio stream.

Obviously, you cannot operate both Amplifiers at the same time with this arrangement. And, you would need to be careful to insure that only amplifier is operational at a time.

This arrangement would allow you to use Amplifier 1 for music and Amplifier 2 for movies. You would need other speakers to connect to Amplifier 2 to provide the other channels for multi-channel movie sound.

But, might I recommend that a better approach might be to dedicate the References to music and acquire a second relatively inexpensive powered sub for your movie setup. This approach would permit you to experiment with connecting the line/preamp/sub output from Amplifier 1 to your Reference LFE inputs, along with the Amplifier 1 speaker connections - providing additional bass support for music if you determine that additional bass is needed.

Best,

Art

Thank you!

That is exactly what I envisioned.
