1) The Supersub XXL is listed at 18 7/8" wide, so how wide of a compartment would I need to allow the sub to function adequately?

2) If I don't have enough room, could the sub be placed "sideways" without inhibiting function significantly?

3) Would some acoustic treatments (if room allows) on the interior of the entertainment center compartments help prevent any "boominess" due to the enclosed space?

Welcome to the forum, thanks for joining us and your interest in the GoldenEar products. In answer to your questions:

1) As long as the air can get out, you only need a couple inches - however, the cabinet will become a resonant chamber based on its dimensions and will change the sound of the sub. The SuperSub is very pretty and quite compact, I'd suggest finding a place for it, seems a shame to cramp a $2000 monster;

2) Nope.

3) Nope, bass frequencies require very large "traps" (think 9' fiberglass wedges like you see in anechoic chamber pictures).

If you have to put the sub in an enclosure I would suggest you skip the sub and see if you are satisfied with the bass from the Triton Ones alone (odds are you will be, unless you listen at very high volumes). Please note that these comments apply to putting any sub that produces significant bass inside an enclosure.

All that said, we do what we must - if the sub has to go in a cabinet, give it some breathing room and call it a day. It won't be any worse than any other sub in a cabinet, and perhaps better because at least you won't have to deal with the vibrations inherent in a typical high powered subwoofer.

Thanks for the answers. I was afraid that would be the situation. I'll negotiate with the wife and see where things go from there. I'll try the Triton 1's without a sub and see how that goes.
