Hi again, djsallad,
Good question and VERY open to opinions, biases, etc. You know what opinions are like, and I have one. ha ha
First, let me say it may well depend on which Class D amp you are talking about. I know they must not all be made the same.
I hope you can hear the one you are interested in with your Tritons before buying.
Second, let me say that living on a pension in Thailand, I like the savings in elect. that Class D brings, AND mostly the low temps, they run cooler.
BUT I am not sure there is that much difference in the sounds of solid state amps, at least high quality, audiophile ones. I have been using a Bel Canto eVo 6 amp, bridged and unbridged for a long time. Bel Canto left tube amps behind and moved forward with Class D a long time before other companies did, they have been followed by LOTS since. I feel their amps are VERY competent, but better than tube amps? What were they smokin?????
I still run my surround sound Triton 3s with them, bridged into a whole bunch of watts. I have new, and supposed to be improved Class D amps from IQ M300 mono block amps, they are just OK. I use them to run my Triton 7s for rear surrounds.
Am I giving you my bias? I run hybrid tube/SS Vincent ST-P800 mono block for my Primary Triton 2s and in my other listening area, a 45 wpc KT 88 tube amp on the Triton 7s.
No, sorry, Class D is just alright with me, nothing special.
But you mileage may vary,
Enjoy the tunes, God Bless,
Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.
