I want to connect my new SuperSats with good quality speaker wire. Is there really a difference between $5 wire and $500 wire?

Yikes - not sure I should step into this one :-0 .

The short answer is yes, there is a difference. That said, we recommend any good quality speaker wire (not lamp cord) of the appropriate gauge for the distances run, from a good cable brand (we've used speaker wire from Audioquest, Cardas, Kimber, Tributaries, with great results).

Thanks for the quick response. it makes sense. I have read on a few other forums that you could use landscape wire, lamp cord, etc. I personally have never used any of this for speaker wire but was just wanting other opinions.

Thanks again.

Great answer Moderator!!!!
I was waiting to see what he would say.
There has been SO much debate about cables and things like this.
I can say, I was auditioning an amp (with some decent cables already and good speakers, but not GE) and the guy trying to sell me the amp said we needed to change to more expensive MIT cables to really hear what this amp could do. He changed to some REALLY expensive cables in just one minute, and the difference was OBVIOUS!!!!!! You would have had to be deaf not to hear the difference.
The sound was smoother, less harsh, more musical. But, did the expensive cables just roll off the highs and make the music sound better by subtraction??? I don't know. I didn't buy.
But yes, cables do make some sort of difference. You really need to listen for yourself, like every other buying decision in audio. Only you can be the judge if music sounds good to you on your system. The great thing is that this is a journey to put together a great system. Enjoy the ride!!!!
All the best,
Wayne

FWIW
I use silver wire.
Check out Signal Cable for cost effective but really good speaker cables and interconnects.
Frank there is easy to talk to and gives sensible answers to your cabling needs.
This is not a plug for him, I am just a satisfied customer.
Hope this helps,
Wayne
