Hi I own an older Denon AVR (3805) Pre HDMI . Using Triton 3+ and XL Center .......
I would love to upgrade to a Marantz SR7013 but wondering is it worth the $$$ upgrade IF i am only running 5.1 ? I use digital coax from my Direct TV box for DD and Toslink from TV from streaming . So will i notice a big difference in sound quality ? Audyssey MAY help ? I have a challenged room with sofa against back wall so 7.1 may be tough . Not sold on Atmos YET .
Thanks

Hi Antman

I have the Marantz SR7010, which is basically the same as the 7013 without some of the newer streaming whistles. Sound quality is excellent. I can’t compare it to your vintage Denon, but if you like the sound you have, I’ll bet the 7013 would be a step up!

Several observations: Marantz’s Audyssey seems to struggle some with dealing with powered Tritons. I run mine without room correction. If you have a challenged room sound wise , other options for receivers with highly rated room correction systems include Anthem and Emotiva. You may want to Investigate those also.

Re Atmos, I love it! Whatever you purchase I recommend you get an Atmos capable receiver so you can expand to that when/if you want.

Hope this helps.

Happy listening!

Re Marantz SR 7013 vs the SR 7010, the new model 7013 has added streaming/connectivity features, like HEOS, Airplay2, Bluetooth, and Alexa voice compatibility. The music processing side seems pretty much the same, with the same AKM 4458 DAC, 125 wpc amps for nine channels. The 7013 lit. references a hybrid clock jitter reducer which may or may not be the same as in the 7010, not sure.

So my guess the two models are pretty much in the same league sound quality wise.

If the newer streaming capabilities are what you want, then the 7013 has more of them.
