I've had an Emotiva XMC-1 for several months waffling between a 7.2 and 7.1 configuration. I'm generally very happy with it. But when running a 'y'd LFE connenction between T1's and T2's (the 7.2 configuration), there is an intermittent 'gurgle/bump/bump' type of sound on the subs on the left side (happens to have slightly longer cable run, not that I'd think that would make a difference). Sounds similar to someone tapping a microphone in a PA system or maybe light wind noise, but lower in volume).

I've run this by Emotiva and the only response from them so far is they wonder if there is some sort of feedback between the two Triton subs. I figured I post here and see if anyone has experienced anything similar chaining T1 and T2 LFE inputs. It definitely only happens with the parallel LFE connection setup.

The 7.2 configuration:

R/L Goldenear Triton 1's, - (XMC-1) configured as large
C Goldenear Supercenter XL - configured as small, crossover @ 50Hz
Surrounds Goldenear Triton 2's - configured as large
Rear Goldenear Supersat 50 - configured as small, crossover @100Hz
Sub configuration:

I'm running the sub connections into the LFE inputs of the Tritons (RCA connection). I have a 'y' adapter connector on each Triton 1 LFE RCA input connector, and connecting the same side's Triton 2's LFE connector. So, for example, the left subwoofer channel is connected to a 'y' splitter for the LFE connection between the front Triton 1 and the surround Triton 2 on the left side. Same for the right.

I have the XMC-1 subwoofer configuration set to stereo subs. I've also done dual mono, but with the same results.

This really sounds great and makes dialing in the subs very easy.

Debugging experiments (none solve the issue):
* I've swapped cables and speakers and have narrowed it down to the left subwoofer channel of the XMC-1.
* I've swapped cabling using rca-rca connector out of the XMC-1 with XLR-rca calbes out of the XMC-1.
* The gurgle only seems to happen with the 'y' LFE split set up I've described. I don't get the gurgle if only one of the Triton's LFE input is configured (tried both front and surround). It is also only on the left channel.
* Speaker mode preset doesn't matter (tried Dirac and preset 1).
* Input device makes no difference
* I've heard the gurgle when no signal was present on input (e.g. nothing playing on the bluray nor roku box).
* I've tried various decoders too, and for awhile I thought it was Dolby PIIx only, but that was a red herring. It happens on other decoders too.
* Currently trying sub set up to dual-mono rather than stereo, still happens.

thanks in advance,
Brad

Brad,

Can you post a pic of the splitter at the rear of your T1s?

Cheers,

T Cobe

If you have swapped cables and it stays with the processor channel, it's the processor with the problem. Hook all four subs up through the other channel, as mono, and see if the issue is gone to verify.

just a simple rca y-cable - 1 male to two females. Good quality, but just a y cable. Nothing active. I swapped the y cables too, so I know they're not the issue.

Brad,

I run the male end of my y-cable into the back of my avr and run 2 LFE cables from there. You may want to try that configuration to see if it makes a difference. As I understand it, you are plugging the male end into the back of your T1s and feeding your T2s off of that. This may be an issue...

Cheers,

T Cobe

Whoa, Brad, is T. Cobe right? Do you have them daisy chained?
I doubt it, but if so, then do as T. said, that is what I do.
You will get it.
God bless, Wayne
God bless the child that's got his own.
