Ben,

Great gear and setup! From what I can see, and pictures can be deceiving as well, you seem to be sitting pretty close to the speakers. Are you equal distance from the speakers as they are placed from each other? If playing them one at a time seems to resolve the issue, would that indicate a sidewall reflection issue?

In terms of critical listening, I have also found positioning makes a significant difference for GET speakers. I have found the my Tritons sound best about 3' away from my side and front walls as well. I recently treated my primary reflections by putting some make shift acoustic treatments on my side walls and that helped my imaging but I wasn't having any issues with the midrange sounding pinched. In fact, I've found the midrange of the GET speakers incredibly life like. In fact, they are so tonally accurate from top to bottom, that you begin to hear things you may not have previously heard. If there are any issues with the music, it will be exposed.

Are you getting the same pinched sound with your CD player and turntable? Across multiple albums? At all volumes? When was the last time you rolled your tubes? Do you have any to swap out? I guess it's a bit of a process of elimination but it still sounds like an acoustics issue. Would you be willing to take a few more shots of your room? Ceiling, side walls, and back wall?

Cheers,

T Cobe

My listening position makes a 7 foot equilateral triangle. I sit 2 feet from the back wall. All new tubes in the pre and power amps. Tried El34s and kt150s. As I sit here and listen right now to the Kansas City symphony Saint Saens it sounds superb. Maybe I just need to give them more time listening.

Ben,

I thought no with any new gear, the break in period is more for you than the equipment. It's a brand new sound and will certainly take some time to get accustomed to. I used to be a big fan of Paradigm but now their gear sounds foreign to me. With only 2 feet behind you and the open space on the right, I assume you have some room acoustics to deal with.

Is there a wall on your left? Open space on the right behind the bar? Any treatments on the side and rear walls? The front wall looks pretty well treated. Of course, I assume you have double checked all of your speaker connections to ensure you're not out of phase? Sorry, I had to ask. Based on your gear and feedback, I'm sure that's almost the first thing you checked...

Give it a little time and play with the toe in a bit. I'm confident that you'll get things sorted out. Based on your feedback, it sounds less and less like a broken pair of speakers.

Cheers,

T Cobe

Guess I never thought they were broken. I was wondering about the metal grills. They do have a resonance when you tap them. Ever hears GET speakers with no cloth or grills?

How do you toe your speakers! Mine are pointing just behind my head.

Ben,

The speakers are designed to be used with the cloth and grill in place. I believe others have asked the question previously if you search the forum. Probably no harm in trying without at this point other than the fact that it may be difficult to get everything back in place in pristine condition.

The general toe in recommendation is directly at the listener. Check out Sandy's Setup Tips under the support drop down above. That's always a great place to start.

Cheers,

T Cobe
