I received the new Invisa HTR 8000's, and they are installed, to replace the top rear Invisa 525 height speakers. So the new height configuration is HTR 7000's top fronts and HTR 8000 top rears.

Wow! With the prior 7000/525 configuration, the 7000's were clearly creating most of the height impact, including dynamics and bass. The 8" drivers and Ref tweeters in the 8000's made their presence known immediately. Huge uptick in height effects.

Yes, the 8000's are a major step up from the already impressive 7000's! Love them!

More on the 8000's.

First, I up mix to the heights any surround inputs that aren't in the new Dolby Atmos or DTS:X height formats via either Dolby Surround for music or DTS Neural up mixer for action movies. BTW the DTS Neural up mixer transforms prior DTS HD Master Audio formats to height formats and the effect is dramatic!

For surround music, which I always up mix to include heights, the sound got even richer, more nuanced, seemed more 3D in the room.

For action movies, where the 7000's had carried the bulk of the dynamic effects, the effects just blossomed. For instance, in the movie Fury about WWII, up mixed via DTS Neural, in one scene in particular that was already amazingly dynamic, where the Tiger tanks are firing from the rear and the American Sherman tanks are returning fire from the front, with the 7000/525 set up, the main action seemed to be from the front. Add 8000 top rears, and the action from the rear Tiger tanks became explosive, wanted to duck when the shells from the tiger tanks came roaring overhead.

Bottom line, the Ref level 8000's are not just height channel champs, they would for sure deliver big time in any potential application, including fronts or surrounds. Highly recommended!

Hi Moderator

You mentioned awhile ago that GoldenEar was working on some new speakers. Any updates to share, glimpses into what they may be???? Would love to see a giant killer SuperSub Ref with 14" or larger dual drivers, an upgraded SuperSat with more power handling to allow crossing over lower, at maybe 80 Hz etc.....

Thanks!
